Perimeter Wall and Site Preparation Completed for Afghan Medical Complex

Share this article:

Abstract

The Afghan Medical Complex (AMC), under the Atta Welfare Foundation, has completed the construction of the perimeter wall and preparation of its 22,000 m² site in New Kabul City, marking another decisive step toward Afghanistan’s first multi-oncology hospital. The perimeter wall secures the land against encroachment, affirms legal ownership, and visibly signals the permanence of the project. Levelling and preparation of the site now allow for geotechnical assessments and future construction, while the installation of essential on-site facilities — including a security cabin, water supply, and storage — ensures operational readiness. These foundational works provide security, sustainability, and legal assurance, setting the stage for design teams to begin technical surveys and planning. This milestone brings AMC closer to its mission of delivering affordable, accessible cancer treatment within Afghanistan and building a lasting healthcare infrastructure for generations to come.

Introduction

The Afghan Medical Complex (AMC) by Atta Welfare Foundation is proud to share another significant milestone in its journey to establish Afghanistan’s first dedicated multi-oncology hospital. Following the purchase of 22,000 m² of land in New Kabul City, we have now completed the construction of the perimeter wall and preparation of the land. These steps are crucial in ensuring the security, sustainability, and readiness of the site for the upcoming design and construction phases.

Perimeter Wall Construction

The perimeter wall was built to establish a secure and clearly defined boundary for the hospital site. This serves multiple purposes:

- Security: The wall protects the land from encroachment, unauthorised access, and potential misuse.

- Projection: It visibly marks the presence of the Afghan Medical Complex, serving as a symbol of the project’s permanence and progress.

- Legal Documentation: The boundary marking plays an important role in legal registration, documentation, and protection of the land, ensuring that it will forever belong to the cause.

The perimeter wall is not just a physical barrier — it is a statement of intent. It shows that the hospital has a home, safeguarded for the Afghan people.

Land Levelling and Preparation

With the perimeter secured, the land has been levelled and prepared for the next steps. This ensures that the site is suitable for design surveys, testing, and eventual construction. Levelling also improves accessibility and allows safe movement of equipment and personnel across the site.

The site is now ready to welcome the design and engineering teams, who will begin soil testing, geotechnical assessments, and other preparatory studies that form the foundation of the hospital’s construction phase.

On-Site Facilities

To support ongoing and future work, several essential facilities have been established on the site:

- Security Cabin: A dedicated cabin has been installed for security staff, ensuring continuous monitoring of the site.

- Water Supply: A reliable water source has been arranged to support construction activities, cleaning, and daily use

- Storage for Materials and Equipment: Dedicated storage areas have been built to safely hold construction materials, tools, and equipment, keeping them secure and accessible.

These additions not only enhance safety but also create an organised environment for contractors, engineers, and workers to operate effectively.

Why This Matters

These seemingly early steps — perimeter wall construction, land preparation, and site facilities — are essential to the success of the Afghan Medical Complex. They provide:

- Security and ownership protection
- Legal assurance for future development
- Operational readiness for engineers and design teams
- A strong foundation for sustainable progress

Every milestone completed brings AMC closer to its goal: building a hospital that will provide quality, affordable, and local treatment for Afghan cancer patients.

Looking Forward

With the land now secured, levelled, and supported by essential facilities, AMC is ready to move forward. The design teams will soon begin their technical assessments and planning, marking the official start of the hospital’s design and partnership phase.

This achievement belongs to everyone who has supported AMC from the very beginning. Together, we are turning vision into reality — step by step — for the people of Afghanistan.

Conclusion

The completion of the perimeter wall and site preparation marks yet another turning point in the journey of the Afghan Medical Complex. The land is now fully ready to host the design, engineering, and construction efforts that will, in time, bring Afghanistan’s first oncology hospital to life.
