Abstract
The Afghan Medical Complex (AMC), initiated by the Atta Welfare Foundation, received an unprecedented global response to its call for architectural and engineering services for Afghanistan’s first dedicated multi-oncology hospital. Over the past two months, 26 companies from diverse regions — including South Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Australia — expressed interest through direct outreach, portfolio reviews, and open advertisements on Jobs.af and ACBAR.org. This broad participation highlights both international solidarity and local expertise, with firms offering insights into oncology design, healthcare infrastructure, and innovative planning solutions. AMC extends its gratitude to all candidates for their time and expertise, recognising their role in advancing the mission of providing free to affordable, quality cancer care in Afghanistan. With the selection process now underway, this milestone reinforces that while Afghanistan faces significant challenges, it has the support of a global community committed to building hope and a healthier future.

Introduction

Over the past two months, the Afghan Medical Complex (AMC) by Atta Welfare Foundation has witnessed an inspiring response from the global design and engineering community. A total of 26 companies from around the world expressed their interest in becoming part of Afghanistan’s first dedicated multi-oncology hospital project.

This overwhelming engagement reflects the importance of AMC’s mission to provide free to affordable, quality, and local treatment for Afghan cancer patients — and the recognition it is receiving at both national and international levels.

A Wide and Diverse Pool of Candidates

The interest came from a diverse group of architectural and engineering firms with experience ranging from specialised oncology centre design to broader hospital and healthcare projects. Candidates were identified through:

  • Direct outreach: Companies with recognised experience in healthcare and oncology design.

  • Global portfolio reviews: Firms with completed or ongoing projects around the world, including in Afghanistan.

  • Open advertisement: Responses to AMC’s Request for Proposal (RFP), which was widely advertised on Jobs.af and ACBAR.org.

A Truly International Response

What made this stage especially remarkable was the global diversity of participants. Firms and experts came from countries such as:

-India
- Pakistan
- Iran
- Turkiya
- Egypt
- Australia
- United Kingdom
- United Arab Emirates (Dubai)
- Kuwait
- Afghanistan (local firms)

This mix of local and international candidates demonstrated both global solidarity and regional expertise in supporting Afghanistan’s journey to build its first oncology hospital.

Meetings and Expert Insights

Throughout the process, AMC engaged with these firms through meetings, interviews, and discussions. Some were held in person, while others were conducted virtually.

Each meeting was not just about proposals, but also about knowledge-sharing. Experts offered perspectives on oncology-specific design, infrastructure challenges, and innovative approaches to healthcare planning. These conversations provided AMC with invaluable insights that will guide the project forward.

Gratitude to All Candidates

AMC extends its sincere gratitude to each of the 26 companies that showed interest in this project. By applying, engaging in discussions, and sharing their expertise, these firms have contributed to the vision of building a hospital that Afghanistan urgently needs.

We deeply appreciate the time, energy, and knowledge these candidates gave to us. Their willingness to listen to our project, understand Afghanistan’s unique challenges, and provide constructive insights reflects a shared commitment to improving healthcare globally.

Looking Ahead

From this pool of 26 candidates, AMC has now moved forward with its selection process. The chosen architectural and engineering partner — supported by technical reviewers and institutional collaborators — will soon begin the design phase of the Afghan Medical Complex.

This global response has strengthened AMC’s confidence and determination. It is a reminder that while Afghanistan faces unique challenges, it is not alone. Experts, firms, and institutions across the world are ready to contribute to the mission of building hope through free to affordable cancer treatment.

Conclusion

The Afghan Medical Complex by Atta Welfare Foundation thanks every firm, expert, and advisor who expressed interest in this project. Your engagement has been a milestone in itself — a testament to the fact that healthcare is a cause that transcends borders.
