Introduction
The Afghan Medical Complex (AMC) by Atta Welfare Foundation was honoured to visit the Afghan Embassy in Delhi and meet with Sayed Mohammed Ibrahimkhil, Charge d’Affaires of Afghanistan. This meeting provided an important opportunity to present AMC’s flagship project — Afghanistan’s first dedicated oncology hospital — and to seek diplomatic support in building connections with medical institutions in India.
Introducing AMC’s Mission
During the meeting, the AMC team introduced the work of Atta Welfare Foundation and its flagship initiative, the Afghan Medical Complex. The discussion highlighted AMC’s mission to provide free to affordable, quality, and local treatment for cancer patients in Afghanistan, reducing the need for families to travel abroad for care.
We also shared progress on the project’s development, including land acquisition, partnership-building, and the selection of architectural and engineering consultants.
Sayed Mohammed Ibrahimkhil expressed strong support for AMC’s mission and acknowledged the urgent need for such a facility in Afghanistan.
He offered practical advice, encouraging AMC to use the Embassy’s platform to establish links with leading Indian hospitals. The Embassy committed to assisting in planning and facilitating meetings with hospital directors, so AMC can learn from their models and explore avenues for collaboration.
Following his guidance, AMC has begun planning such meetings in the near future to strengthen technical expertise and operational strategy.
In addition to his professional role, Mr. Ibrahimkhil also spoke from personal experience. He shared his story as a patient, describing the pain and suffering he endured before receiving treatment in India. He noted that he only found relief when treated at a specialised hospital in Hyderabad, where advanced equipment and expertise were available.
His story reinforced the reality that countless Afghans face today: the lack of specialised facilities forces them to travel abroad, often at great cost and hardship. His words were both moving and motivating for AMC’s team, underscoring the importance of bringing advanced cancer care into Afghanistan itself.
The meeting was not just about introductions — it was a knowledge-sharing discussion. Topics included:
- The challenges Afghan patients face when seeking treatment abroad.
- How diplomatic support can bridge connections with regional healthcare institutions.
- The role of experience-sharing from hospitals in India in shaping AMC’s planning and operations.
AMC’s team came away with new perspectives and renewed energy to push forward, inspired by both the Embassy’s support and Mr. Ibrahimkhil’s personal story.
With the support of the Afghan Embassy in Delhi, AMC is confident that valuable connections will soon be built with hospitals and directors across India. These collaborations will provide insights into oncology care models, hospital management, and technical solutions — helping AMC avoid future challenges and strengthen its foundation.
The Afghan Medical Complex expresses sincere gratitude to Sayed Mohammed Ibrahimkhil for his time, guidance, and heartfelt support. His encouragement, combined with his personal testimony, adds to AMC’s determination to build a hospital that will prevent future generations of Afghans from experiencing the same suffering.
Together with our partners, supporters, and institutions like the Afghan Embassy in Delhi, we move one step closer to creating a centre of hope, dignity, and healing in Afghanistan.
